Summary
The Sint Maarten Yacht Club is looking for a volunteer to help with our Sailability program on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30-11:30am.Detailed description
Do you have watersports experience? Do you like getting out on the water and helping others in the process? If so, the volunteer position with our Sailability program is for you. SMYC is looking for a capable individual to help welcome our Sailability students for each class, to help rig boats, and to go sailing and assist them in learning and be comfortable on the water.
The Sailability classes are from mid September to June on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30-11:30am, and you can choose to help on either or both of those days.
We use an RS Venture Connect sailboat that is specially designed and rigged for adaptive sailing. The Connect is stable and safe, and with two seats facing forward, the students are able to be involved in the sailing. You do not have to steer the boat, you are there to interact with the clients. Also, sailing experience is preferred, but is not necessary.
One of the goals of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club is to make sailing available for a broader audience, and our Sailability program does just that. Even when you have a physical or mental disability, participating in sports is crucial to building self-confidence and focus, and each student gets to learn at their own level based on their individual capabilities.
